Canon SD780IS PowerShot Reviews
The new Canon SD780 IS is the replacement for the older Canon SD770; while it may not look much like its predecessor, the SD780 is the successor to this older model and a worthy replacement for the popular 770. It's an incredibly slim and compact digital camera which manages to pack a lot of features into one small, user-friendly camera.
The SD780IS offers the same features that have made the rest of the company's PowerShots product line a household name, such as its fast, accurate autofocus and optical image stabilization technology. A new addition to the list of features on this model is the capability to capture HD video in AVI format at 1,280 x 720 resolution for playback on a television, PC or Macintosh.
With its 12.1 megapixel CCD sensor and the Canon DIGIC4 image processor, the SD780 offers very high quality images which appear sharp and detailed even when printed out in large poster size prints. A 3x optical zoom lens is included as well as focal lengths of 33 -100mm 35mm film equivalent, all with Canon's optical image stabilization which eliminates blur and camera shake.
The 2.5' LCD screen on the Canon SD870 IS functions as a wide screen viewfinder for composing shots as well as a viewfinder - the screen is bright and large enough to get a good feel for your shots, something not every digital camera on the market can boast of. For traditionalists, an optical viewfinder is also included in this model.
The video recording capabilities are good, with 30 fps recording and 1,280 x 720 resolution for the AVI video captured by this camera. The only flaw with the video recording function is that it tends to drain the battery somewhat quickly, so if you plan to shoot a lot of video with the SD780, you may want to invest in an extra battery pack.
The built in flash function is more than satisfactory, but the technical feature which will really interest users is the Canon SD780's sensitivity, which ranges from ISO 80 - ISO 1,600 and up to ISO 3,200 when shooting using the camera's high sensitivity scene mode.
It's compatible with standard SD memory cards and offers USB 2.0 connectivity as well as NTSC/PAL AV output capabilities, something which consumers have come to expect of digital cameras. Canon doesn't disappoint here either: the SD780 IS offers easy connectivity to television sets as well as computers and printers for viewing and printing high quality digital photos.
